Latin name: Aniba rosaeodora
Source country: Brazil
Appearance: White liquid of medium viscosity
Aroma: Sweet, floral, slightly spicy aroma
Derivation: Distillation of the wood chippings from the tree.
Chemicals: The two main chemicals are linalool and cineole. They give rosewood its
calming properties. Other chemical components are the usual terpenoids such as pinenes,
neral, geranial, myrcene and terpineol.
Uses: It is mainly used in the perfuming industry because of its sweet high note and it
blends well with lower note perfumes. It is used in a minor way in aromatherapy because
it balances the emotions relieving stress, is effective on the skin in removing blemishes
and irritation, and helps maintain the skins elasticity. It is often added to massage oils
because of this property. The aroma is used in vapourising to help with headaches and
muscular tensions. It may help dry and sensitive skin. Due to the excessive loss of the trees
associated with the production of this oil, it is now the law to replace a tree everytime
another one has been cut down to produce the oil thereby hopefully regenerating the
species.
Note: As with all pure essential oils, dilute appropriately with a suitable carrier oil
before using on the skin. Do not take essential oils internally
